The Director General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, Akin Osuntokun, has said the 2023 elections are not a good election for the country.

Mr. Osuntokun, who is a political scientist and strategist, said this during an interview with Arise News presenter Charles Aniagolu. Citing the recently announced Kogi State election results as an example, Mr. Osuntokun announced that the Nigerian election is not a real election as everything that could be wrong is in it.

 

His words:


"It is not a good election for the country or for the Labour Party. The election that took place is not a real election and is not authentic, as everything that can be wrong with an election is paddled into it.


"Take an example: there was a local government in Kogi State in which ninety-three percent (93%) of registered voters turned up to vote. That is fiction; there is no precedence for that."


Explaining why he called the Nigerian election a fiction on the show, Mr. Osuntokun said:

"It is fiction because the number of registered voters in Nigeria is fiction.

"Look at all the elections that have been conducted in Nigeria; you will see that none come to thirty percent (30%) of the number of voters. That is a reflection that the number of voters is high.

"There is this piracy, maybe of a twenty percent (20%) variation in the number of voters."

 

Recall that the results of the Kogi State election, which was held on November 11, 2023, have been announced by Nigeria's electoral body (INEC), with the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, Ahmed Usman-Ododo, declared the winner of the elections. However, the Labour Party has rejected the outcome of the elections.
